Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

You Have Killed Me

Pasolini is me
'Accattone' you'll be
I entered nothing and nothing entered me
'Til you came with the key
And you did your best but

As I live and breathe
You have killed me
You have killed me
Yes I walk around somehow
But you have killed me
You have killed me

Piazza Cavour, what's my life for?

Visconti is me
Magnani you'll never be
I entered nothing and nothing entered me
'Til you came with the key
And you did your best but

As I live and breathe
You have killed me
You have killed me
Yes, I walk around somehow
But you have killed me
You have killed me

Who am I that I come to be here...?

As I live and breathe
You have killed me
You have killed me
Yes I walk around somehow
But you have killed me
You have killed me

And there is no point saying this again
There is no point saying this again
But I forgive you, I forgive you
Always I do forgive you

Pasolini: Pier Paolo Pasolini, poet, director, writer, the soul of the 20th century Italian art.

Accattone: Accattone was the title of the first movie by Pier Paolo Pasolini in 1961. Literally 'Accattone' means a beggar, mendicant. In Rome it also means a poor man, a man with no talent. Here Morrissey implies that the person he is speaking to will be "his first"...

Piazza Cavour: Cavour Square in Prati, Rome. Just behind the Palace of Justice and very near to Lungotevere. Rumoured to be a "gay cruising area"...

Visconti: Luchino Visconti, famous Italian director, author of masterworks like Ossessione, Rocco e i suoi fratelli, Morte a Venezia, Il Gattopardo. He also worked a lot with Anna Magnani as she was his favourite actress. An episode directed by Visconti of the movie "Siamo Donne" was about Anna Magnani's everyday life.

Magnani: Anna Magnani, the greatest Italian actress ever.

On promoting the new album in TV shows and live in concert, Morrissey often changed the second verse to "Fellini I'll be", a clear reference to Federico Fellini one of the greatest Italian director ever.

Tu mi hai ucciso

Pasolini sono io
'Accattone' diventerai tu
Non ero entrato in niente e niente era entrato in me

Mentre vivo e respiro
Tu mi hai ucciso
Tu mi hai ucciso
Certo, in qualche modo me ne vado in giro
Ma tu mi hai ucciso
Tu mi hai ucciso

Piazza Cavour, a cosa serve la mia vita?

Un Visconti sono io
Una Magnani tu non lo sarai mai
Non ero entrato in niente e niente era entrato in me

Mentre vivo e respiro
Tu mi hai ucciso
Tu mi hai ucciso
Certo, in qualche modo me ne vado in giro

Mentre vivo e respiro
Tu mi hai ucciso
Tu mi hai ucciso
Certo, in qualche modo me ne vado in giro
Ma tu mi hai ucciso
Tu mi hai ucciso

E non ha senso dirlo di nuovo
Non ha senso dirlo di nuovo
ma io ti perdono, ti perdono
In ogni momento ti perdono

Visconti: Luchino Visconti, grande regista italiano, autore di capolavori come "Ossessione", "Rocco e i suoi fratelli", "Morte a Venezia", "Il Gattopardo".
