Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

Girlfriend In A Coma

Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's serious
Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's really serious
There were times when I could have 'murdered' her
(But you know, I would hate anything
To happen to her)
NO, I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER!
Do you really think
She'll pull through?
Do you really think
She'll pull through?
Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's serious

Bye, bye, ... baby, goodbye

There were times when I could have 'strangled' her1
(But you know I would hate anything
To happen to her)
WOULD YOU PLEASE LET ME SEE HER?2
Do you really think
She'll pull through?
Do you really think
She'll pull through?
Let me whisper my last goodbyes
as3 I know - IT'S SERIOUS

About this song Johnny Marr recalls: "That song came out of me and Morrissey's love of Bob & Marcia's 'Young, Gifted And Black'. We both absolutely adored it. So Girlfriend In A Coma was trying to capture the spirit of that. If you listen to the string parts on both you can maybe see it."

The scenario shows a hospital-ridden girl after a ghastly accident with sarcastic comments from the protagonist, his boyfriend. The end is the most dramatic moment of the song with Morrissey saying 'bye, bye, baby' and preparing for the dreaded 'last goodbye'.

1 In the early drafts the line was: 'there were times when I could have cheerfully strangled her'

2 First drafts contained 'with tears in my eyes I ask you!'

3 this little word wasn't noticed by most Morrissey's lyrics researchers!

Amica in coma

Amica in coma, lo so
Lo so - è una cosa grave
Amica in coma, lo so
No, non voglio vederla!
Davvero pensate
Che se la caverà?
Davvero pensate
Che se la caverà?
Amica in coma, lo so
Lo so - è una cosa grave

Ciao, ciao.. piccola, addio

1 Nelle prime bozze il verso era: 'there were times when I could have cheerfully strangled her' ('ci sono stati momenti in cui l'avrei strangolata con gioia')

2 Le prime bozze di testo contenevano 'with tears in my eyes I ask you!' ('con le lacrime agli occhi vi chiedo!')
