Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

Ganglord

Ganglord, the police are
Kicking their way into my house
And haunting me, taunting me
Wanting me to break their laws

Ganglord, the police are
Kicking their way into my house
And haunting me, taunting me
Wanting me to break their laws

And I'm turning to you,
Oh, to save me...
And I'm turning to you,
Oh, to save me...

Ganglord, the police are
Grinding me into the ground
The headless pack are back
Small boy jokes and loaded guns

Ganglord, the police are
Grinding me into the ground
The headless pack are back
Small boy jokes and loaded guns

And I'm turning to you, to save me...
And I'm turning to you,
Oh, to save me! Save me...
To save me, save me, to save me!

Gandlord, there's a clock on the wall
Making fun of us all

Ganglord, there's a clock on the wall
And it makes a joke of us all

And I'm turning to you, to save me...
And I'm turning to you, to save me, save me...
To save me, save me, to save me!

Ganglord, remember!
The police can always be bribed...

Ganglord, remember!
The police can always be bribed...

They say 'to protect and to serve'
But what they really want to say is:
"Get back to the ghetto! The ghetto!
Get yourself back to the ghetto!
The ghetto! The ghetto!
Get yourself back to the ghetto!
The ghetto! The ghetto!"

In a recent Q&A session, Morrissey was talking about living in L.A.: "I'm inspired by Rome because it's the exact opposite to Los Angeles, where I've spent so much time in recent years. As stunningly beautiful as Los Angeles is, it is also essentially a police state. The city belongs to the police, no one else. Everywhere you go there are police - watching, watching, and waiting for any reason - for no reason - to jump on people. Consequently, the people of Los Angeles are very nervous about everything - about parking their car, about driving too slowly, about crossing the road the wrong way, about sneezing without a permit, etc. If you walk down a street humming in Los Angeles you are immediately considered to be suspicious. Once you're arrested, the courts always support whatever the police say regardless of what that is. In Rome, the police are very casual, and they don't threaten people because they seem to quite rightly think that most people don't actually intend to break the law. This gains the police respect. In Los Angeles, the police believe that everyone is guilty of intending to commit a major crime - to know is to be guilty, etc. Rome has struck me as being a very safe city, and not at all uptight, which is a contrasting relief against the pressures of Los Angeles. Am I ranting? 'Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!' Oh, sorry.

to protect and to serve is the motto of the LAPD.

This b-side to "The Youngest Was The Most Loved" was performed live for the first time on April 26 in Greenock, Scotland.

Signore della gang

Signore della gang, la polizia si sta
spianando la strada verso la mia casa
e mi perseguita, mi schernisce
mi invita a infrangere le sue leggi

Signore della gang, la polizia si sta
spianando la strada verso la mia casa
e mi perseguita, mi schernisce
mi invita a infrangere le sue leggi

Ed io mi rivolgo a te,
Oh, per essere salvato...
Ed io mi rivolgo a te,
Oh, per essere salvato...

Signore della gang, la polizia mi sta
schiacciando a terra
Il branco senza cervello è tornato
Scherzi da ragazzini e pistole cariche

Signore della gang, la polizia mi sta
schiacciando a terra

Sto esagerando? 'Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiì!" Oh mi dispiace."

to protect and to serve (proteggere e servire) è il motto della polizia di Los Angeles (LAPD).

Questa b-side di "The Youngest Was The Most Loved" è stata eseguita e presentata per la prima volta dal vivo a Greenock, Scozia il 26 aprile 2006.
