Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 26 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, afternoons, views, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

Istanbul

When he first cried, his mother died
I had tried to be his guide
When he was born I was too young
The father searches for the son

In Istanbul
Give him back to me, oh Istanbul
Give me back my brown-eyed son

Moonlight jumping through the trees
Sunken eyes avoiding me
From dawn to dusk, the hunt is on
The father searches for the son

In Istanbul
Give him back to me, in Istanbul
Give me back my brown eyed son

On secret streets in disbelief
Little shadow shows the lead
Prostitutes stylish and glum
In amongst them, you are one
Oh what have I done

Rolling breathless off the tongue
The vicious street gang slang
I lean into a box of pine
Identify the kid as mine

In an online chat at Morrissey fan website “True To You” he revealed that Istanbul is a very romantic destination to him: "When I’m in Istanbul I feel as if I could never die." He also said that it was his second favorite city behind Rome.

Joe Chiccarelli, the album’s producer, stated that “Morrissey wanted to evoke the feeling of the hectic and chaotic streets of the city of Istanbul, so he used a cigar-box guitar, a lap steel guitar and a complicated and busy drum rhythm, plus an actual gong as percussion, as well as vocal samples from a field recording taken in the streets of Istanbul by guitarist Jesse Tobias.”

Istanbul

Al suo primo vagito sua madre morì
Avevo tentato di essere la sua guida
Quando nacque ero troppo giovane
Il padre cerca ancora suo figlio

Ad Istanbul
Restituiscimelo, oh Istanbul
Restituiscimi mio figlio dagli occhi bruni

Restituiscimelo, oh Istanbul
Restituiscimi mio figlio dagli occhi bruni

Su strade segrete nell'incredulità
Poca ombra mostra la strada
Prostitute eleganti e stupide
Tra di loro, tu sei uno
Oh, cosa ho fatto?
