Wor(l)d of Morrissey
We're back! Welcome to the world of Morrissey's lyrics.

This site and all of the work made to keep it updated during the last 25 years are dedicated to my beloved friend MaCa65 who suddenly left this lonely planet
and me without words. Throughout the short stretch of time that we have been given to spend together as close friends, we shared many things,
thoughts, passions and some bits of Life. Back in 1983, together we discovered a band called The Smiths and together since then, we followed Morrissey's career
as one of the most influential and inspiring singer/artist/poet of our age. Maca65 has always been a strong supporter since when I first launched WoM,
so this is and will always be entirely for you, my friend. -- David

First Of The Gang To Die

You have never been in love
until you’ve seen the stars
reflect in the reservoirs

And you have never been in love
until you’ve seen the dawn rise
behind the Home for the Blind

We are the Pretty Petty Thieves
and you’re standing on our streets
where Hector was the
first of the gang with a gun in his hand
and the first to do time
the first of the gang to die, oh my

Hector was the first of the gang
with a gun in his hand
and the first to do time
the first of the gang to die, oh my

You have never been in love
until you’ve seen the sunlight thrown
over smashed human bone

We are the Pretty Petty Thieves
and you’re standing on our streets
where Hector was the first of the gang
with a gun in his hand
and the first to do time
the first of the gang to die
Such a silly boy

Hector was the first of the gang
with a gun in his hand
and a bullet in his gullet
and the first lost lad
to go under the sod

And he stole from the rich and the poor
and the not very rich and the very poor
and he stole all hearts away
He stole all hearts away
He stole all hearts away
Away...
He stole all hearts away
Away...

This song was one of the favourite at concerts before the album was released and it reflects the Morrissey's fascination for crime and especially for the youngest criminals, this time the subject being the street gangs of Los Angeles. Back in the early years of 2000, Morrissey had also become a sort of icon in the Hispanic community of Los Angeles and South America in general.

Hector, the protagonist, was part of a Latino street gang. He's described as a charming young guy who, almost unwittingly, used to go round the streets of L.A. and suffered the fate to be the first to wield a gun, go to jail and die in a gunfire.

Charm of the crime, charm of the youth, romance and death: all ingredients recurring in Morrissey's lyrics.

e tu ti trovi sulle nostre strade

e tu ti trovi sulle nostre strade

A tutti...
A tutti ha rubato il cuore
A tutti...
