29/04/2013 -  In una lettera aperta, Amanda Palmer si offre di aiutare Morrissey ad usare Kickstarter per il suo nuovo album
Amanda Palmer è attualmente una delle più controverse e schiette sostenitrici del cosiddetto “crowdsourcing”, nell’industria musicale. In questi giorni ha convogliato il proprio entusiasmo in una lettera aperta a Morrissey pubblicata su “Salon”. La Palmer vorrebbe aiutare Morrissey a creare fondi per il suo prossimo album, per il quale, apparentemente, non ha ricevuto attenzione da parte delle case discografiche. Vuole portare Morrissey su Kickstarter e Twitter.
Nella sua lettera aperta, la Palmer sottolinea il proprio amore e ammirazione per Morrissey sin da quando era adolescente. Scrive di aver saputo della sua malattia, della recente cancellazione del tour e soprattutto del fatto che lui non riesca a trovare un’etichetta discografica che faccia uscire il suo prossimo LP.
La Palmer spiega il significato di una nota che ha postato su Twitter, chiedendo quanti dei suoi followers avrebbero dato a Morrissey 5 dollari per la pubblicazione solo digitale del suo disco. Ha calcolato che se 500.000 persone ordinassero il nuovo disco album al prezzo di 5 dollari, Morrissey ricaverebbe due milioni e mezzo di dollari.
Nella lettera spiega anche perché le etichette discografiche sono inutili, cita Buddha e si definisce la sua “devota generatrice di composizione di nuove canzoni”.

Amanda Palmer Offers to Help Morrissey Use Kickstarter for His Next Album in Open Letter
Amanda Palmer is one of the most controversial, outspoken supporters of crowdsourcing in the music industry right now. Today, she's channeled that enthusiasm into an open letter to Morrissey, published by Salon. Palmer wants to help Moz generate funds for his next record, which apparently has no label interest. She wants to get Morrissey on Kickstarter and Twitter.
In the letter, Palmer outlines her love and admiration for Morrissey since her teenage years. She describes learning about his illness, recent tour cancellations, and his not being able to find a label to put out his next LP.
Palmer explains a note she posted on Twitter, inquiring as to how many of her follows would give Morrissey $5 for a digitaly-only release of his record. She calculated that if 500,000 people pre-ordered his album for $5, he'd make $2.5 million.
She explains why record labels are useless, quotes the Buddha, and calls herself his "devoted songwriting-spawn."

“The Smiths on screen” ospiterà un dibattito sull’influenza culturale sugli Smiths di film, televisione e letteratura, seguita dalla proiezione di “Sapore di Miele” di Shelagh Delaney.
“The Smiths on screen” celebra i 30 anni dall’uscita nel maggio 1983, del singolo di debutto degli Smiths “Hand In Glove”, che fu registrato negli studi di registrazione Strawberry di Stockport.
dalle 12 alle 16: presentazione pomeridiana
La presentazione pomeridiana includerà la proiezione di un documentario esclusivo e un dibattito sulle influenze culturali della band, e ospiterà Len Brown, autore di "Meetings With Morrissey", e Mick Middles, autore di "The Smiths' The Complete Story".
Il pomeriggio si concluderà con la proiezione di uno dei film preferiti di Morrissey, “Sapore di Miele”, che fu tra le ispirazioni di Hand In Glove e di altre canzoni degli Smiths.
Alcune delle scene furono filmate in alcune località di Stockport e mostrano la Chiesa di St. Mary e il Viadotto di Stockport.

"The Smiths on Screen" celebrates 30 years to the day since the release of The Smith's debut single Hand In Glove on 13th May 1983 which was recorded at Strawberry Recording Studios, Stockport.
12.00pm - 4.00pm: Afternoon Presentation
The afternoon presentation will feature exclusive documentary footage and a discussion about the band's cultural influences with guest speakers Len Brown, author of Meetings With Morrissey, and Mick Middles, author of The Smiths' The Complete Story.
The afternoon concludes with a screening of one of Morrissey's favourite films A Taste of Honey, written by Shelagh Delaney, which was an inspiration for the lyrics of Hand In Glove and other Smiths' songs.
Some scenes were filmed on location in Stockport and feature St Mary's Church and Stockport Viaduct, you check one of the moments Stockport appears in the film in the clip below.

La rivista NME ha inserito "Irish Blood, English Heart" al n. 98 della classifica delle 100 migliori canzoni del primo decennio degli anni 2000:
"La vera, grande canzone del “ritorno” di Morrissey, un entusiasmante, piccolo dramma nazionalista che si dimostra più appassionato che enfatico. La canzone annunziava il nuovo gladiatore Morrissey, dal torace ampio, che presto si sarebbe mostrato mentre brandiva un mitra sulla copertina del suo nuovo disco “You are the Quarry”. In due giorni di festival, con conferenze, spettacoli, arte e film, lo Smithsfest passerà in rassegna l’impatto culturale ed artistico degli Smiths, uno dei gruppi più iconici, influenti e controversi della storia della musica pop.
Per i loro fan, gli Smiths sono il migliore gruppo musicale nella storia della musica rock. Lo stesso Morrissey ha dichiarato che "gli Smiths sono stati l’ultimo gruppo di una qualche importanza", e sono senza dubbio figure chiave della controcultura degli anni ’80 in Gran Bretagna.

Over a two day festival comprising talks, performance, art and film, Smithsfest will survey the artistic and cultural impact of The Smiths, one of the most iconic, seminal and controversial bands in the history of pop music.
To their passionate fans, The Smiths are the greatest band in the history of rock music. Morrissey himself stated that “The Smiths were the last group of any importance”, and they are key countercultural figures of 1980s Britain.
Smithsfest guests and participants are coming from across the country to pool their knowledge and passion. Highlights include the London debut of Terry Christian’s solo show Naked Confessions of A Recovering Catholic; a double-bill of A Taste of Honey and The Leather Boys introduced by Rita Tushingham, two films she stars in and which were a huge influence on The Smiths. Mark Simpson, author of Saint Morrissey, will be in discussion exploring the question Morrissey: Saint or Sinner?, and former NME editor Danny Kelly hosts a talk exploring the Enduring Cultural Significance of The Smiths, with a panel of academics and superfans.

Morrissey ha rivelato di esser stato costretto a cancellare il suo tour negli Stati Uniti a causa delle notevoli spese mediche derivanti dalla lunga serie di malattie di cui ha sofferto, incluse una polmonite bilaterale e un’ulcera.
L’ex cantante degli Smiths ha dichiarato che, a causa delle sue precarie condizioni di salute, i conti dei medici gli hanno impedito di ottenere la copertura assicurativa per continuare ad esibirsi nelle date previste.

Litany of health problems cost Morrissey his tour of the US
The singer Morrissey has revealed that he was forced to cancel his US tour because of the huge medical costs arising from his series of health scares, which included double pneumonia and a stomach ulcer.
The former Smiths frontman said, on top of his poor health, the bills meant he was unable to get insurance to continue performing on the dates.
Morrissey, 53, told a Mexican radio station: “I had to (cancel) because of medical reasons, because I have had so much medical attention, it had soaked up all the insurance. So we couldn't actually continue anymore because we weren’t insured to continue.” He had been fighting ill health for a number of weeks after being diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer and a condition called Barrett's oesophagus, which can in some rare cases, lead to cancer. His depleted defences were then battered by pneumonia.The singer said: “They tried to patch me together over the following five weeks, but it didn't quite work and I was on lots of IV drips for almost five weeks and each time it seemed like I was back to robust health I would go into decline.”
Morrissey disclosed that he had been advised to retire from live performance but was determined to return to the stage because “it’s ingrained within me and I know it’s the best of life when you tour and you make music and sing.”

Ecco una rarità per i fans degli Smiths: l’ex batterista Mike Joyce ha twittato un link a una demo del primo periodo del gruppo, registrata dagli alfieri del post punk nel 1983, prima di incidere l’omonimo album di debutto l’anno successivo.
Intitolata ‘The Pablo Cuckoo Tape’ - secondo chi ha messo in rete il video, che ha dichiarato che la registrazione viene da una fonte anonima con quel soprannome – la demo, di 39 minuti, è molto disturbata, ma la chitarra di Johnny Marr avvolge e si fa strada nelle orecchie, mentre il melodramma nella voce di Morrissey è palpabile come sempre.
Chi ha messo in rete il video ha spiegato l’origine della registrazione in un messaggio su un sito di fans degli Smiths. Registrata nel Maggio 1983 nel magazzino di Joe Moss, quando il gruppo doveva ancora firmare per la Rough Trade, ma stava per registrare l’album ‘The Smiths’, la demo era per il produttore Troy Tate, in modo che avesse qualcosa su cui lavorare prima che il gruppo entrasse nello studio di registrazione.

Rare Smiths demo from 1983 unearthed
Here's a rarity for fans of the Smiths: former drummer Mike Joyce has tweeted a link to a very early demo tape recorded by the post-punk luminaries sometime in 1983, before they recorded their self-titled debut the following year.
Dubbed The Pablo Cuckoo Tape – according to the video's uploader, who said the recording came from an anonymous source with that nickname – the 39-minute demo is thick with fuzz, but Johnny Marr's guitar winds and worms its way into your ear, while the melodrama in Morrissey's voice remains as palpable as ever.
The video's uploader did link to a message board post on a Smiths fan site that explained the tape's origins: Recorded in May 1983 at manager Joe Moss' jeans warehouse, the band had yet to sign to Rough Trade, but were about to record The Smiths. The demo was for producer Troy Tate so that he'd have something to work with before the band entered the studio.

18/03/2013 -  Messaggio di Morrissey: spero che questa non sia la fine.
Non è previsto il proseguimento dell’attuale tour negli Stati Uniti a causa dei continui problemi di salute di Morrissey, e non verranno programmate nuove date. Morrissey è amaramente dispiaciuto per questa decisione e si scusa con tutti coloro che hanno avuto dei fastidi a causa della cancellazione.
“Ci vorrebbe una vita intera per trovare le parole giuste, e al momento non le ho. Sono stato una colossale pena, con questa malattia continuamente imprevedibile, e ora ho raggiunto i limiti fisici. Il tour è stato davvero fantastico, per tutti noi, un nuova parte di vita piena di energia concentrata. Il pubblico, ovunque, ha dato così tanto, anche se so che nessuno di noi riceverà mai quello che gli è dovuto. Spero che questa non sia la fine, e che ci saranno altre occasioni, senza il pesante carico della malattia. Oggi sento nodi di dispiacere, ma sono veramente determinato per domani”. Morrissey's message: I hope this is not the end
There are no plans to continue with the present U.S. tour due to Morrissey's ongoing medical problems, and dates will not be rescheduled. Morrissey is bitterly disappointed with this decision and he apologizes to everyone who has been inconvenienced.
"It takes a lifetime to find the right words, and at the moment, I haven't got them. I've been a colossal pain where this continuously unpredictable illness is concerned, and now the physical limits have been reached. The tour had, in fact, been fantastic for all of us - a new slice of life full of concentrated power. The audiences everywhere have given so much, although I know that neither of us will ever receive our due. I hope this isn't the end, and I hope there will be other chances, minus the heavy burden of illness. Knots of grief today, but full of resolve for tomorrow." Morrissey, Mexico, 16 March.

16/03/2013 -  Cancellato il tour di Morrissey negli Stati Uniti
Le rimanenti date del tour di Morrissey negli Stati Uniti sono state ufficialmente cancellate per motivi medici. Il cantante ha sofferto di una serie di problemi di salute nei mesi scorsi, compresi un’ulcera perforata, la sindrome di Barrett e una polmonite bilaterale.

Morrissey's U.S. Tour Cancelled
The remaining dates of the Morrissey U.S. North American tour have officially been pulled down due to medical reasons. The singer has suffered a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett's esophagus and double pneumonia.
Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour. Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts. Refunds for the remaining shows are available at point of purchase.

Non conoscevo personalmente Margaret, ma lei era sempre in prima fila – in Gran Bretagna, negli USA; in Israele – dovunque andassimo, lei ci seguiva. La settimana scorsa Margaret ha guidato dietro il bus del tour per tutta la strada da Davis a Seattle, e a Davis è riuscita a salire sul palco. Le ho firmato il braccio, e la mia firma è diventata un tatuaggio. Questa settimana è morta. Posso solo sperare, per Margaret, che la morte le porti il conforto del riposo, e che in qualche modo le procuri qualcuno che la ascolti. Siamo tutti stufi di vivere nella stessa pelle giorno dopo giorno, in un mondo dove ci è permesso di ascoltare soltanto ciò che è blandamente triviale, e non c’è niente di sbagliato nel prendere il proprio destino tra le mani, così come non c’è niente di sbagliato nel capire cosa è giusto per te e cosa non lo è. Siamo scaraventati nella vita senza averlo mai scelto, e veniamo disprezzati se non riusciamo a trovare un luogo, del tutto paralizzato, nel quale starcene fermi e zitti. Margaret era una donna d’azione, che ora conosce l’anima del mondo.
Nel frattempo, nella pagina odierna di notizie di AOL, i titoli ci dicono che Victoria Beckam, a quanto pare, ha abbandonato il suo look “falso” e che William e Kate stanno cercando un’altra casa ancora – la frigidità costituzionale del mondo mediatico è ormai apertamente ossessionata da zombi e imbecilli.

I did not know Margaret on a personal level, but she was always there on the front row - the UK, the US, Israel - wherever we'd go, she'd go. Last week Margaret drove behind the tour bus all the way from Davis to Seattle, and managed to get onstage at Davis. I had signed her arm and it was now a tattoo. This week she is dead. I can only hope, for Margaret, that death yields the profit of rest, and somehow provides her with a listener. We all weary of living in the same skin day after day, in a world where only the blandly trivial are allowed to be heard, but there is nothing wrong with taking your destiny into your own hands, just as there is nothing wrong in understanding what is meant for you and what isn't. We are plonked into life without ever choosing to be, and we are despised if we fail to find a paralyzed spot in which to keep still and shut up. Margaret was a woman of action, who now knows the soul of the world.
