Secondo quanto riferisce la CBS, la scrittrice Shelagh Delaney è morta nell'abitazione della figlia dopo una lunga battaglia contro il cancro qualche giorno prima di compiere 72 anni. Morrissey - che è cresciuto nei pressi della città natale della Delaney, Salford (Manchester) - durante tutta la sua carriera ha spesso reso omaggio alla commediografa citando nei suoi testi le sue opere, come ad esempio in 'Reel Around The Fountain'. Il testo di 'This Night Has Opened My Eyes', una canzone degli Smiths, ha preso a prestito la vicenda narrativa dalla prima sceneggiatura della Delaney 'A Taste Of Honey'. According to CBSNews, Shelagh Delaney died at her daughter's home after a battle with cancer just a few days prior to her 72nd birthday.
Morrissey – who grew up close to Delaney's hometown of Salford, Manchester – has often paid tribute to the playwright by referencing works from her canon in his lyrics throughout his career in tracks such as 'Reel Around The Fountain'. The Smiths' song 'This Night Has Opened My Eyes' borrowed its narrative from Delaney's first play 'A Taste Of Honey', while her face also appears on the cover of the band's 1987 compilation album 'Louder Than Bombs'.

L'ormai ex chitarrista dei Cribs ha rivelato di aver passato del tempo con i suoi amici Morrissey ed Andy Rourke. Con quest'ultimo pare stia progettando di fare di nuovo musica insieme. Marr ha dichiarato al Sun che andrà un po' in giro e "forse suonerà" insieme al bassista Andy Rourke e che attualmente è in buoni rapporti con Morrissey. Di recente, Marr ha supervisionato la ripubblicazione di tutti e otto gli album degli Smiths, usciti separatamente in un box set a edizione limitata.

Johnny Marr has revealed that he's been spending time with his Smiths bandmates Morrissey and Andy Rourke - the latter of whom he could soon be making music with again. The former Cribs man told The Sun that he's going to be hanging out and "maybe playing" with bassist Rourke and added that he's also on good terms with Morrissey. Marr recently supervised the remastering of all eight of The Smiths' albums. They came out separately and as a deluxe limited edition box set.

Morrissey ha finito di scrivere la sua autobiografia. A dichiararlo lo stesso cantante ai microfoni di BBC Radio 4, il quale ha aggiunto di voler pubblicare il manoscritto entro il prossimo anno. "La mia autobiografia? Ora posso davvero affermare di averla completata. Mi sono accorto di aver scritto ben 660 pagine. Effettivamente mi sono domandato se tutte quelle pagine fossero troppe. Beh, mi sono risposto che era quello lo spazio necessario a contenere tutto ciò che ho da dire su di me e sulla mia vita", ha detto l'artista. "Vorrei che il mio libro fosse pubblicato nella collana Penguin Classics. Non vedo perché no", ha aggiunto Morrissey. Il cantante ha inoltre del tutto escluso una reunion degli Smiths: "Non credo proprio che gli Smiths torneranno insieme. Non ci sono punti in comune su cui lavorare, non abbiamo parlato di alcun lavoro insieme. Credo diventerò come uno di quei vecchi cantanti blues e probabilmente morirò da solo su un palco di Chicago", ha concluso.

Morrissey autobiog finished
Morrissey has confirmed that he has finished writing his autobiography, adding that he wants it published within the next year. The singer was being interviewed for BBC Radio 4's Front Row when he made announcement. "How far [into writing the book] am I? Well, I've reached the re-drafting, trimming stage," he said. He added: "I've been through the whole life in many ways and I just wonder if 660 pages are too much for people to bear. And then I sit down and think, well, are six pages too much for people to bear? I really don't know. I'm trimming." Morrissey went onto confirm that he does not have a deal with a publisher and will be offering the book to clients in due course. He said he wants it to come out on the Penguin Classics series, despite the book franchise normally only ever being bestowed on already-established literary classics rather than new titles. "I can't see why not," Morrissey asked when quizzed on the matter. Elsewhere in the interview he reiterated that he has no plans to reform The Smiths any time soon. "It won't happen. Nah. I don't think so," he said. "There's no reunion point. There really is no point at all that I can think of, and that's that." He also said he doesn't want to retire from singing, declaring light-heartedly: "I'm just gonna carry on like the old blues singers and die onstage in Chicago probably."

Il singolo è disponibile su enhanced CD, vinile da 7", vinile picture disc 7" e download digitale. "Glamorous Glue" è stato rimasterizzato ed è accompagnato da due canzoni mai pubblicate e mai ascoltate prima - "Treat Me Like A Human Being" e "Safe, Warm Lancashire Home" - tratte dalle sessioni di registrazione dell'album "Viva Hate". In una delle versioni ripubblicate compare anche la versione di "Glamorous Glue" tratta dallo show Saturday Night Live.

The single is available on enhanced CD, 7" vinyl, 7" picture disc vinyl, and digital download. "Glamorous Glue" is remastered, and is backed on the various formats by two previously unreleased, unheard songs - "Treat Me Like A Human Being" and "Safe, Warm Lancashire Home" - from the Viva Hate album sessions, the remastered promotional video for "Glamorous Glue," and the version of "Glamorous Glue" from Saturday Night Live.

07/12/2010 - David Cameron dichiara di essere un fan degli Smiths - Morrissey reagisce con un lungo messaggio
Recentemente e in più occasioni il Primo Ministro inglese David Cameron, leader dei Tory, ha espresso pubblicamente il suo amore per gli Smiths. Ma agli ex-membri della band, da sempre dichiaratamente schierati a sinistra, questa confessione non è piaciuta molto. Prima è saltato fuori Johnny Marr, ex chitarrista della formazione di Manchester, che nei giorni scorsi sul suo account twitter ha scritto queste testuali parole: "David Cameron, smetti di dire che ti piacciono gli Smiths, non è vero. Ti vieto che ti piacciano". Ora sulla questione si è espresso anche Morrissey e non è stato molto più tenero di lui. "È vero che la musica è un linguaggio universale, l'unico vero linguaggio universale che appartiene a tutti", ha scritto in una lunga email mandata ad un suo fan club, "Però per una questione di coerenza devo sottolineare che David Cameron caccia e uccide i cervi, a quanto pare per piacere. E non è per queste persone che abbiamo scritto e registrato `Meat is murder´ o `The Queen is dead´. Quelle canzoni erano proprio una reazione contro questo tipo di violenza". Morrissey ha anche criticato l'iniziativa del Primo Ministro inglese, che vorrebbe abrogare l'Hunting Act, legge voluta dal governo laburista per limitare la caccia. 09/08/2010 - Morrissey a Sua Maestà: “Basta copricapo in pelliccia per le guardie reali”
Morrissey lancia un appello a Sua Maestà, Elisabetta II d’Inghilterra, affinché si cessi la produzione di copricapo in pelliccia per le guardie reali. Il cantante britannico, vegetariano ed animalista convinto, ha scritto una lettera un quotidiano inglese per sensibilizzare la monarca a non adoperare più pellicce di orso per i colbacchi militari: “Vorrei lanciare un appello alla Regina, so che è difficile trovarsi nel ruolo in cui si trova ma vorrei esortarla a non far più produrre per le sue guardie copricapo in pelliccia. Salvaguardare i diritti degli animali è un dovere, Stella McCartney si è già offerta di disegnare un colbacco in pelliccia sintetica, si eviterebbero tante morti inutili e tante sofferenze agli animali”, sostiene Morrissey. Hats are not worth killing for: guards wearing real fur reflects the human spirit at its lowest Sir, I welcome Ann Widdecombe’s views on the depravity of bear-baiting in order to serve the vanities of the British Army Guards (Opinion, July 30). In the humanised world, of course, hats are not worth killing for. Yes, animal rights move different people differently, and there are even those who think that animals simply have no right to be, but there is no sanity in making life difficult on purpose for the Canadian brown bear, especially for Guards hats that look absurd in the first place, and which can easily be replaced by faux versions (thanks to the visionary Stella McCartney) with no death involved. It is difficult not to look to the Queen herself — after all, they are her Guards, and she must surely be aware of the horrific process utilised to supply real bearskins for her Guards. The mere sight of each bearskin hat must surely jab at the Queen’s heart. Protection of animals makes for a responsible life. The world is speeding up, and in order to assist humankind to advance we all strive in many ways to be a better “we”. The brain speculates, but the heart knows, and there is no clever distinction in trapping and skinning bears for petty considerations based on vanity. Concern for all beings — human or animal — is a kindness and a goodness that springs from somewhere much deeper than Royal duty, and like it or not, the Guards wearing real fur reflects the human spirit at its lowest. 13/07/2010 - La EMI ristampa la raccolta "Bona Drag" con nuovi brani
Secondo la webzine True to You il 27 settembre la EMI ristamperà il primo album/raccolta di Morrissey. "Bona Drag" fu la prima raccolta di singoli e b-side che il Moz pubblico nel 1990 dopo lo scioglimento degli Smiths e la pubblicazione di "Viva Hate". In questa occasione la major rielabora la versione del disco espandendola con tracce inedite e un update dell'artwork. Stranamente c'è l'approvazione di Morrissey che di solito è restio a queste operazioni di marketing. Questa la tracklist aggiornata:

Bona Drag: 20th Anniversary vinyl and CD editions release information
To celebrate its 20th Anniversary, on 27th September, EMI will release through the resurrected 1960s Major Minor label, with Morrissey's full cooperation, a remastered Special Edition of Bona Drag. Originally released to much acclaim in October 1990, Bona Drag perfectly captures Morrissey's effortless transition in becoming a solo artist. It brings together his exceptional first seven singles, four of which went Top 10: his triumphant Top 5 debut, "Suedehead"; the anthemic, apocalyptic lament to wet seaside towns, "Everyday Is Like Sunday"; "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys"; and "Interesting Drug". The Top 20s "Ouija Board, Ouija Board", "November Spawned A Monster", and "Piccadilly Palare" and a selection of high quality b-sides from the singles complete the album. The compilation has now been remastered and overseen by Morrissey, and is updated with the addition of six previously unreleased and much coveted songs from the era:

In addition, he has also decided to update the back and inner artwork with a selection of favourite, hand-picked and rarely-seen photos. The LP version will be a double heavyweight 180g vinyl, housed in a wide-spine sleeve with a pull-out poster.
