12/08/2009 - Dichiarazione di Morrissey sulle riedizioni EMI/HMV/Parlophone
Morrissey vuole che sia noto di non esser stato consultato da EMI/HMV/Parlophone in merito alle due riedizioni di singoli di prossima uscita. Morrissey non approva queste pubblicazioni e vuole suggerire ai suoi fan di non acquistarle. Morrissey non riceve alcuna royalty dalla EMI fin dal 1992. Inoltre non approva e non è stato consultato sulla pubblicazione Rhino box dei CD degli Smiths, come anche sulla pubblicazione della Warner dei vinili da 180 grammi degli LP degli Smiths. L'ultimo pagamento delle royalty da parte della Warner risale a più di 10 anni fa e, anche in questo caso, chiede ai suoi estimatori di non acquistare le riedizioni di LP o CD. Morrissey would like it to be known that he has not been consulted by EMI/HMV/Parlophone with regards to two forthcoming boxed sets of Morrissey singles. Morrissey does not approve such releases and would ask people not to bother buying them. Morrissey receives no royalty payments from EMI for any back catalogue, and has not received a royalty from EMI since 1992. Morrissey also does not approve of, and was not consulted on, the Rhino box of Smiths CDs, or the Warner releases of Smiths LPs on 180 gramme vinyl. 15/07/2009 - Statement from Morrissey about Rimini postponed gigs
The two Rimini concerts were cancelled for production reasons. Put simply, the venue could not accommodate our PA system or lights, etc.
The concerts are not cancelled due to health problems.

I concerti del 13 e 14 luglio al Velvet di Rimini sono stati rinviati a data da destinarsi per non meglio precisate irrisolvibili ragioni. Morrissey suonerà al Velvet di Rimini il prossimo 13 e 14 luglio le uniche date in Italia. Il concerto di lunedì è ormai quasi sold-out mentre ci sono ancora biglietti disponibili per martedì 14. Affrettatevi.

16/06/2009 - The Smiths Singles Box in uscita in UK il prossimo 29 giugno
E' una scatola di cartone contenente i primi 10 singoli degli Smiths usciti in UK con le copertine originali e con le track-list originali dei dischi 12", tranne il primo singolo "Hand In Glove" che appare nella sua super-rara versione con copertina al negativo. Due singoli sono esclusivi per questo box set: la versione rara di "This Charming Man" mixata da François Kevorkian chiamata "New York Mix" e la versione 12" importata dalla Germania di "Barbarism Begins At Home" del 1985. Il box è completato da un poster che raffigura le immagini dei singoli. Tutti i singoli utilizzano tracce audio rimasterizzate da Frank Arkwright supervisionate da Johnny Marr e includono molti brani non presenti negli album, come l'introvabile B-side dal vivo alla BBC registrata all'Apollo di Oxford nel 1985. Un oggetto da avere assolutamente e limitato a sole 10.000 copie!

The Smiths Singles Box to be released as 10 Box (UK, 29th June)
A clamshell card box containing the first ten UK-issued Smiths singles in original picture sleeves, featuring the original 12" single tracklistings, apart from the first single 'Hand In Glove', which appears in it's mega-rare "negative" sleeve. Two singles are exclusive to this box set; The rare Francois Kevorkian-mixed "New York" 12" version of "This Charming Man" which had a limited issue in December 1983 and the German import-only 12" version of "Barbarism Begins At Home" from 1985. The box is completed with a poster featuring the single artworks. All singles utilise newly re-mastered audio by Frank Arkwright overseen by Johnny Marr, and feature many non-album tracks, including the hard to find B-side live BBC tracks recorded at the Oxford Apollo in 1985. A must have item, and limited to 10,000 copies only.

02/06/2009 - "Swords": la nuova raccolta di b-sides in uscita il prossimo ottobre
E' lo stesso Morrissey ad annunciarlo dal suo sito ufficiale MySpace: "[...]Sono entusiasta della pubblicazione in ottobre di "Swords", una raccolta di 18 brani b-sides dei singoli fuoriusciti dagli ultimi tre album. Sarà una pubblicazione della Polydor.
Grazie a tutti coloro che hanno acquistato 'Years of Refusal'. L'album era il più venduto in UK nella settimana di pubblicazione, ma, come è accaduto con 'You Are The Quarry' e con 'Your Arsenal', è stato scacciato dal primo posto all'ultimo momento. Ne abbiamo pianto.[...]"
"Swords": a new b-sides compilation set to be released October 2009
It's Morrissey himself from MySpace announcing his next record: "[...]I am excited about the October release of Swords, which is an 18-track compilation of b-sides of singles from the last three albums. This will be a Polydor release.
Thanks to everyone who bought 'Years of Refusal'. We were the number one seller in the UK for the week of release, but, as with 'You Are The Quarry' and 'Your Arsenal', we were booted off the number one spot on the last hour of the final day. We cried.[...]" |

04/05/2009 - Years Of Refusal nelle classifiche
A soli due mesi dall'uscita è già molto positivo il risultato di "Years of Refusal" nelle classifiche di vendita mondiali. L'album ha esordito nella United World Chart del 7 marzo in sesta posizione, totalizzando ben 99.000 copie vendute nella sola prima settimana di pubblicazione! "Years of Refusal" è ancora presente nella Billboard 200 USA, dove ha esordito al numero 11. Si tratta del miglior piazzamento di sempre per Morrissey nelle charts americane, a pari merito con "You Are The Quarry". Molto bene le vendite anche in Europa, dove l'album ha raggiunto la posizione n. 2 della Europe Charts, la n. 3 in Gran Bretagna, la n. 4 in Danimarca e Germania, la n. 5 in Svezia e la n. 25 in Italia.

"Years Of Refusal in the world charts"
In his first week of release, the Morrissey's ninth studio album, Years of Refusal, peaked at numer seven in the United World Charts with 99.000 copies sold. The album is still charted on the US Billboard 200, where it peaked at number 11 in his first week of release. This is the best position for Morrissey since 2004 "You Are The Quarry" which reached the number 11 as well. The album is also selling well in Europe, where it made an impressive debut at n. 2 in the European Charts. In U.K. "Years Of Refusal" debuted at n. 3 and in Italy at number 25.

"The unbearable lightness of being Morrissey" è il titolo di una lunga intervista rilasciata da Morrissey a Peter Murphy in esclusiva per la rivista Hot Press. Morrissey parla dell'ultimo album, del suo rapporto con il cinema durante l'adolescenza, del suo rifiuto per la paternità, dei 50 anni che compirà a maggio, delle ragioni per le quali è stato escluso dalle programmazioni radiofoniche della BBC, di Obama e di altro ancora. A proposito di "Years of Refusal", Morrissey racconta di aver spinto la sua voce, in alcuni brani come "I'm Ok By Myself", "It's Not Your Birthday Anymore" e "Sorry Doesn't Help", verso vette mai toccate in passato.

The unbearable lightness of being Morrissey
"The unbearable lightness of being Morrissey" is the title of a long interview to Morrissey by Peter Murphy exclusively for Hot Press magazine. Morrissey talks about many topics: the last album's songwriting, his relationship with movies during his youth, his refusal for fatherhood, being 50 next May, the reasons why his songs have been banned by BBC's Radio One playing lists, Obama's election and more. Morrissey also declared that in some "Years of Refusal" songs he pushed his voice towards limits never touched before ("I'm Ok By Myslef", "It's Not Your Birthday Anymore" and "Sorry Doesn't Help").
